BUENAVISTA, MARINDUQUE – The sulphuric hot springs of this town have been well-reputed for its therapeutic benefits way before it became a popular tourist attraction.

According to the municipal government, its waters were once used as alternative medicine for diarrhea and skin diseases during the Spanish and American colonization period.

An American physicist -Dr. T. H. Weisenburg – published a report at the Philadelphia Medical Journal in 1903 indicating “immediate improvements” from soldiers who were made to drink and bath from its waters after suffering from chronic amebic dysentery.

Decades later, many of the locals still rely on the spring’s thermal waters to treat stomach flu and skin ailments.

Foreign and local visitors alike also frequent this particular spot to experience the rejuvenating effects of its natural sulphur content.

Rocks surrounding the springs, meanwhile, are volcanic sediments from Mount Malindig from which flows crystal blue waters.

The property currently has two make-shift pools and picnic cottages. Entrance fee ranges from P25 for children and P50 for adults.

Further development is still ongoing as the local government intends to develop the Malbog Hot Springs into a full-fledged resort complete with amenities and accommodation.
