BORACAY ISLANDS, AKLAN – Henry Chuseuy first arrived in this island more than 20 years ago and recalls falling in love with its pristine sand and crystal clear waters.

“I stayed here for three days in a nipa hut and living was all simple and carefree. There were no hotels or any form of establishments back then,” Henry says.

Despite having visited many countries around the world, he attests that has never seen anything quite like the paradise that Boracay has to offer to its visitors.

This is perhaps why he still carries the same vision as chairman of the Boracay Foundation Inc., (BFI) and hopes to preserve its environment despite ongoing commercialization developments in this seven-kilometer long island.

“Our main task is to protect and at the same time promote the natural beauty of the island. We also work with the local government in rehabilitating the environment.”

Chuseuy, who owns the Henan Hotels and Resorts operating three major hotels in the island, also ensures that all properties adhere to specific environmental friendly measures for its maintenance.

“We give utmost priority to waste segregation and use organic waste as compost or fertilizer when planting trees in our landscape. Practices such as these can mean big things in our fight to save the island.”

The Boracay from two decades ago may now be too crowded, with pollution threatening a tourism-dependent community.

However, Chuseuy still believes that it’s not too late for everyone to work together in an effort to preserve the island’s natural beauty.

“I like coming back here often even before because Boracay really has a beauty of its own. This is why we try our best to protect the island using the voice we have as one foundation.”

  1. Boracay is one of the top destinations in the Philippines because it’s white fine sand and crystal clear water.
