DANAO, BOHOL – Set amid a background of lush foliage and below it the rushing Wahig River, the Danao Adventure Park, offers a variety of activities set amid wonderful scenery.

Also known as  E.A.T (Extreme, Economic, and Educational) Danao, the park’s attractions range from physical activities like wall, root and roof climbing, rappelling, kayaking, camping and river trekking to educational village, historical and farm tours.

From Tagbilaran, it takes two hours to get to Danao Adventure Park. To make the most out of a day trip, the “Skyride”, “Suislide” and “The Plunge” are most popular among guests.

Each activity can be done in a matter minutes but that does not  make it less exhilarating.

Strategic landscaping separate the three stations for each activity but you get the same spectacular view of the  thick foliage and dodgy lime stones below that’s at least 600 meters deep.

According to the parks’ facilitators, they intended to make the drop off points for all aerial activities higher over the years, noting that Danao attracts more adventurous travelers (who have less fear of heights, I assume).

If you’re threshold for fear is rather low, progression is the key. Bask in the whole scenery of this side of Bohol by taking the “Skyride” or Cable Car (250 pesos per head), categorized as Level 1 or “Basic” activity.

The breezy five-minute back-and-forth ride extends to a distance of 480 kilometers  and gives you an idea how far you’ll glide and how deep you’ll drop for the more exciting rides ahead.

Just a short trail walk away is the “Suislide” (350 pesos per head), ranked Mid-level or “Mild Exertion”. Even before anxiety starts kicking in, take note you can opt to be  strapped to a trained personnel during the ride (also back-and-forth).

You can look straight or sideways to see your shadow, giving you a some sort of illussion that you are , indeed, flying. Just don’t look down at all cost.

If you feel like the pushing your limits after the first two rides, you can advance to the “The Plunge” (700 pesos per head), categorized as Extreme or “High Fitness Level” activity.

This one could be tricky than one would imagine. Brave the 600 meter deep solid lime and coral stones grounds below by either by going seated or strapped head first.

Similar to the dynamics of bungee jumping, the Plunge (or Canyon Swing) will have you dropping 200 meters from the jump-off point at an abrupt speed. This activity requires presence of mind since operators will give instructions as to how to get back up after the fall.

Going head first and doing it the wrong way can lead to either a sprained lower back or shoulders. Also, avoid exerting force on your entire body so that you swing along and not contradict with the direction of the drop.

The brave souls who have tried what’s considered the highlight of the trip to the Danao Adventure Park often induce an out-of-body experience like no other. They are given fancy certificates of recognition as a constant reminder that they’ve overcome their fears in Bohol.

Whichever of these activities you choose to do in Danao Adventure Park, what’s important is that you discipline yourself for safety, relish in the various experiences that can be had on your visit and keep that certificate to support your bragging rights.
