Rizal’s ‘iglesia bonita’ is a source of pride for Ilonggos

ILOILO CITY, ILOILO— National hero Dr. Jose Rizal is said to have been enchanted by the St. Anne Parish, or more popularly known as Molo Church, that he described it  as “iglesia Bonita” or “beautiful church”.

Rizal, who visited the church on his way from his exile in Dagupan to Manila in August 1896, made this remark after viewing the towering red spires of the church and biblical paintings on its walls.
