ANINI-Y, ANTIQUE PROVINCE— The Sira-an Hot Spring offers visitors its therapeutic warm water for relaxation and a panoramic view of the sea.
The spring gets natural warm water from a nearby inactive volcano in Anini-y town. The local government made a few improvements to boost its tourism programs by constructing swimming pools at the hot spring.
The warm water reeks of sulfur and is widely believed to be a cure to aching bones and muscles, as well as some skin diseases.
The two pools are strategically placed facing the vast view of the beach. After a relaxing dip in the hot spring, visitors can swim in the sea if they wish to.
There is also an abandoned post of the Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology (Philvocs) nearby. Since the inactive volcano poses no threat, the local government of Anini-y transformed the post into an attraction for visitors.
On top of a nearby hill is a grotto and a statue of Mary which locals believe protects the island.
Visitors can stay overnight but don’t expect an air-conditioned room or hotel services. There are cottages offering visitors the chance to enjoy the cool sea breeze particularly at night.
Anini-y is in the southernmost part of Antique. It is an hour and a half drive from San Jose de Buenavista, the capital of the province. It takes about two and a half hour drive if you are coming from Iloilo city.
