PUGO, LA UNION – Nestled at the foot of the slopes of Benguet in the province of La Union, a resort has risen to give people from the north a taste of what it’s like to be in the beach.
The Kultura Splash Wave and Water Park in La Union is the latest in-land resort with an artificial wave pool. This is the first one in northern Luzon to have such a facility.
Built for two years and officially opened in November 2010 the Kultura Splash Wave and Water Park was built along the slopes of Pugo district in La Union. It is along Kilometer 251, which is the same highway going up to Baguio City, just 40 minutes away.
The resort is also surrounded by hills and forests, which makes it an ideal location for some quite rest and recreation. Its location is also advantageous for one reason: it is perpetually cool even during hot summer days.
Among the resort’s amenities include four swimming pools, three kiddie pools, one of which has a playground, a lap pool, and a giant water slide set with two huge twisting slides. A 1,000-square-meter artificial wave pool can accommodate around 200 to 300 swimmers.
The Kultura Splash Wave and Water Park is also among the first in Luzon to have a fish spa, which is a small foot pool that is home to the “doctor fish,” also known as garra rufa. It is a small fish that nibbles on dead skin cells. The fish spa concept was popularized in Turkish baths where bathers are dipped in water with the fish to be “cleaned.”
At least three dozen cottages are available for rent at the resort. These cottages look like bamboo and nipa huts that are also popularly used at drinking bars. Those bringing in their food particularly barbecue can cook some of it at a grilling station, though there is a restaurant available.
Corporate events can also be held at the resort as it also has a function room. Those who want to stay longer can avail of the villas, which can accommodate between two and six people.
Entrance costs vary from P250 for a day during weekdays for adults and P200 for children below 4 feet. Weekend prices cost a little higher. Cottage rates would cost between P800 to P1,000 per day. Meanwhile, overnight rate for rooms is between P4,500 to P4,800.
