BALER, AURORA – Bay’s Inn is favorite place to stay among surfers for one simple reason: you wake up and hit the Pacific Ocean waves a few steps away from your room.
Even if you don’t surf, the seafront restaurant at Bay’s Inn affords you a ringside view of surfers in action at Sabang Beach, considered ground zero for surfing in Baler.
You can choose from the rooms located right behind the restaurant or if you want a bit more privacy, go for the rooms in the two-storey building further back. Rooms cost P700 to P1000, a bit more for aircon rooms. (Rooms can accommodate 2 to 3 people, check here for complete room rates).
To our surprise, it was cold and windy when we went there last weekend (we thought otherwise since its summer already, so we took an aircon room). A fan room would do since you get to enjoy plenty of ocean breeze.
What is worth pointing out is that almost each room has a set of sturdy wooden table and chairs outside. You can spend your spare time there hanging out or mingling with other guests (especially at night when it’s breezy) or simply taking advantage of the hotel’s free WiFi.
There are also a number of nipa huts also fronting the beach – you can choose to eat your meals there without additional charge (remember the sign: Cottages Not For Rent).
Or, like what we did, have a couple of beers at night while listening to the crashing waves.
Rooms come with a complimentary breakfast. I highly recommend the tapa (the corned beef is forgettable).Anton Diaz of Our Awesome Planet recommends the crispy tadyang and Manager’s Choice pizza. Unfortunately, we didn’t get to have meals at the restaurant aside from breakfast.
The blog Pinoy Byahero commends Bay’s Inn for its “fast and friendly” service. I would agree although I won’t recommend ordering room service if you’re staying at the second floor at the back. Better to just go down at the restaurant.
The best time to enjoy your stay at Bay’s Inn is during sunset. Pick a table nearest to the beach, order a banana shake with chocolate syrup and simply stare at the sea and sky.
