LUCBAN, QUEZON–Visiting the Kamay ni Hesus would be one of the best ways for Catholics to commemorate Christ’s sacrifices this Lenten season.
Nestled on the slopes of Mount Banahaw in Lucban Quezon, this shrine attracts local and foreign tourists especially during Lent.
The construction of the shrine started in 2004 because renowned healing priest Fr. Joey Faller wanted to accommodate pilgrims seeking physical and spiritual healing.
Fr. Faller, a 2009 Gusi Peace Prize Laureate for divine healing and humanitarianism, now runs the place and celebrates healing masses.
A distinct landmark of the church is the 50-foot image of Jesus Christ located on top of the hill with His hands open wide as if welcoming pilgrims.
Devotees can reach the top of the statue by climbing some 300 flight of steps. Visitors are advised to take a rest along the 14 stations of the cross on your way up. Be careful though because the stairs are quite slippery so make sure you hold onto the bars for safety.
The view from the top of the statue is breathtaking, offering you a view of the neighboring towns of Quezon.
If you wish to wind down or just meditate, Kamay ni Hesus also has many places of prayers including Noah’s Ark and the garden of Adam and Eve.
For those who seek for physical healing, masses are scheduled every Monday and Saturday at 930a.m.
To get there, you can take a bus at the Buendia Station just below the LRT station and look for buses bound to Lucban. If you’re from Quezon City, you can also take a bus from Kamuning to Lucena Grand Central and then take a short jeepney ride going to the shrine.
