A personal encounter with the ‘Haribon’

DAVAO CITY, DAVAO DEL SUR— Magnificent is just one word to describe the rare chance I had to see the mighty Philippine eagle (Pithecopaga jefferyi) up close.

I had the opportunity to visit the Philippine Eagle Foundation (PEF) here last weekend  via a trip arranged by the Wild Bird Club of the Philippines. PEF, a nonprofit organization dedicated to the conservation of the haribon, is located at the foot of Mount Apo, the tallest mountain in the country.
