PUERTO GALERA, ORIENTAL MINDORO — Have you tried riding a banana boat in Puerto Galera? If not, then I suggest you add this to your activities to spice up your stay at the beach this summer.

Banana boat is a large, banana-shaped boat which can carry around eight to 10 people. For only P200 pesos per person, you and your friends can enjoy one roller coaster ride. It doesn’t matter if you don’t know how to swim as life jackets will  be provided for you. When everyone’s set, the boatman pulls the banana boat using a small motorboat far from the swimming area and takes you to a thrilling ride.

Our family tried this some years ago while looking for other exciting things to do at the beach. I thought it was just a simple, smooth cruise in the middle of the sea. Little did I know that the concept behind it was throwing passengers into the water as the boatman banks curves and takes turns.

It was scary at first. Thank goodness I had a life jacket. The boatman takes a series of unpredictable turns intentionally to have the passengers lose grip and fall into the water. Everytime we fall, he stops so we can climb back again but only to make us fall for the nth time. But really, we had so much fun.

Banana boat activity is listed on the things to do in Puerto Galera. And just like me and my family, bloggers Lakwatsera and Maylene agreed that riding a banana boat is a must-try if ever you take a trip to the beaches of Puerto Galera.

Pueto Galera is just a boat ride away from Batangas Port. Here’s how to get there from Wengtea’s blog.
