MANILA, METRO MANILA — If you think there’s no other way to get close to aquamarine life but to dive into the deep blue sea, think again because your P400 pesos are enough to discover wide varieties of marine species at the Manila Ocean Park located near the Luneta Park in Manila.
Adults pay P400 while kids 4.5 ft and below can enter for P350 for an underwater experience without getting soaked. Soon after you pay, you can enjoy proceed to the oceanarium following the so-called “Journey” tour where visitors can follow the path designed to show how marine life are grouped according to their variety and family.
The journey begins with “Flow” which gives you a feel of the jungle and a soothing flow of the simulated waterfall to the park’s eight tanks. This is the place where you can physically interact with some animals like the star fish. It was so slimy for me though, so I just took pictures instead of touching them.
The next stop is the Coral reef (bahura) which has 46 tanks of interesting collection of coral reef inhabitants, followed by the Fishing Ground comprised of four large tanks showcasing a variety of fish from the open sea which man partakes of as food. But of course no fishing or cooking is allowed.
My personal pick among the stations is “The Living Ocean” wherein I stayed long to get a feel of aquatic life in a 25-meter walk along an underwater tunnel. Kids can actually see the marine animals interacting with each other, making it a good place to take picture. Yes, you can take pictures so long as you don’t use your camera’s flash to disturb the marine life.
Living Ocean is followed by “The Deep” and “Stringrays” which gives you a view of various sharks and stringrays as you look above.
Another P150 will allow you to experience the Glass Bottom boat ride and have a view of the species of the Living Ocean and experience seeing them beneath your feet.
If gazing at the aquarium makes you tired, it’s time for the fish to do the work at the fish spa. For P120 you can dip your feet into the Fish Spa and let the so-called “doctor fish” nibble away on the dead and affected areas of your skin.
