QUEZON CITY, METRO MANILA–Quezon City captured the 2nd Coca-Cola Hoopla National Capital Region Championship after sweeping Taguig in the best-of-three finals.
Quezon City leaned on the team’s go-to guy Christopher Villarosa who was also named “Most Valuable Player.” Quezon City coach Rene Baena was named “Best Coach” of the tournament.
Quezon City won P 250,000, while second place Taguig received P125,000. Caloocan, took third place and P75,000, while Antipolo took home P50,000 at fourth place.
The Coca-Cola Hoopla is a basketball developmental league of non-varsity players 18 and under from competing cities. The league aims to tap talents from the grassroots and barangay levels.
Although it is only on its second season, the community-based basketball league has already attracted scouts and coaches. Organizers plan to expand the league beyond the National Capital Region in the coming years.
