PASIG CITY, METRO MANILA – The Department of Education (DepEd) will hold a nationwide marathon where participants will provide pledges of school materials instead of the usual registration fee.
This activity is part of this year’s 150th birth anniversary celebrations of the country’s National Hero Dr. Jose Rizal.
The marathon will 1-kilometer and 2-kilometer segments and will be held on June 19 in different division offices of DepEd. The agency is also working with local government units and community organizations to prepare for the marathon.
With the theme “Every Runner, A Finisher, Every Finisher, A Winner,” the event aims to encourage enthusiasts of running to help young people to have the necessary school materials for their education.
The DepEd accepts material donations from writing implements to classroom furniture such as chairs and tables as well as school equipment such as computers, fax machines, printers, projectors, and electric fans.
In addition, participants can also pledge to volunteer in various DepEd projects, such as tutorial services, peer counseling, teacher assistance, school maintenance and repairs, and even teaching.
