DAVAO CITY, DAVAO DEL SUR— Wakeboarding is becoming a popular water sports in Davao. If you are in the city on vacation, you might want to maximize your stay by experiencing this extreme sport at Deca WakeBoard Park.
Deca WakeBoard Park is so far the largest wakeboarding park in South East Asia with a seven-hectare lake that attracts wakeboarding enthusiasts and tourists since its opening in 2009.
Deca WakeBoard Park is said to be the first wakeboarding park in Davao. The park is a project of Chris Tan and Sherilyn Reyes, who are known advocates of water sports in the country.
Wakeboarding is gaining popularity among enthusiasts, but Deca WakeBoard Park offers something new because you can wakeboard with the mystical Mount Apo as a backdrop.
A whole day experience costs 1000 pesos or non-Davao residents while a half-day visit costs 700 pesos. You can also visit the park on a Wednesday and pay only 800 pesos or less for a whole day visit and P400 for a half-day stay (depending on the time of your visit). The park also offers discounts.
The park features an overhead cable system and is an ideal venue for big wakeboarding tournaments. For first timers, there are highly-trained personnel to guide you.
Aside from wakeboarding, the park also offers other amenities such as a cable park, a massage center, and a restaurant.
According to blogger Jotan, the instructors are friendly enough to accommodate newcomers and are ready to assist even young enthusiasts.
If you are planning your to-do list this year, perhaps you can include a trip to Davao and to the Deca WakeBoard Park.
Davao is 30 to 45 minutes away by airplane from Manila. Located in Barangay Mintal, the park is another 30 minutes from the Davao City International Airport.
