QUEZON CITY, METRO MANILA—Running may be one of the hippest social sports in the country but biking has also not lost its spotlight in the streets, especially for those who wish to live a healthy lifestyle.

So why is biking preferred by many sports enthusiasts?

As a form of exercise, biking is more interesting than walking on a treadmill at home or in the gym. Biking allows you to explore a bigger environment while also burning your calories.

Aside from its health benefits, biking is an environment-friendly sport and a mode of transportation for others. There are biking enthusiast groups which were even formed to promote the use of bikes to lessen the pollution brought by motor vehicles. Unlike driving cars, a bike does not require you to have a license so you can hit the streets.

Ezinearticles.com listed the benefits of biking. It stated that aside from its simplicity, biking is also a low cost activity which can be done both indoors and outdoors. A good cyclist does not need to have the most expensive bike. Just the same, you don’t need an expensive bike for exercise.  Biking gives you an excellent cardiovascular workout which helps tone your muscles.

Like running, it can also be done alone or in groups. You can cover far distances and different locations when riding your bike.
