CORREGIDOR ISLAND, BATAAN — Aside from the ruins of World War II and the many historic features, Corregidor Island now offers the Rocket Zipline as their latest attraction.
The Rocket Zipline was officially introduced to the public December of 2009. Experiencing a zipline is like being a human cable car. You slide through 200 meters of cable suspended about 20 feet from the ground while traversing half of the island.
The zipline can carry up to 250 pounds. Trained professionals assist tourists from start to end of the ride so there’s really nothing to worry about safety.
The 25-second breath-taking experience starts from an amphitheater-like ravine below the hilltop Corregidor Hotel and ends in the South Beach area. Tourists can now enjoy the adventure sports for P150. There is no age restriction so anybody is allowed to try.
However, the 20 feet high cable extending to 200 meters is still nothing compared to the ziplines in Danao,Bohol, Bicol and Subic. But because Corregidor is nearest to Manila, it still proves to be a hit among adventure-seekers. Sun Cruises Inc., who launched Corregidor as an adventure island, offer regular trips to the place.
Other sports activities you can enjoy in the island are marathon, beach football and volleyball. You can also try the Corregidor aquathlon challenge and kayaking race.
Bloggers Ivan Henares and James Strocel also shared some more activities like getting inside the historic tunnel. Here’s a possible itinerary for a weekend stay in Corregidor.
