MANILA, METRO MANILA — The Manny Pacquiao fever isn’t going to die down any time soon. In fact, the Filipino boxing champ knows that it’s good business to cash in on his reputation, even if he’s already worth hundreds of millions of pesos.

With his hard-earned cash, Pacquiao got into several ventures in the hopes of ensuring his future even after he retires. He and his wife Jinkee opened up a grocery, as well as a commercial building called JMP in Pacquiao’s hometown of General Santos. Pacquiao himself has other businesses and activities such as owning a basketball team, fighting cocks, and a boxing promotions firm. Of course, both husband and wife have also endorsed various brands from food to beauty products.

The best product for them is the Pacquiao brand and that’s exactly what Team Pacquiao did; they opened a clothing and accessories shop solely dedicated to promoting Manny Pacquiao’s name. There are only two such novelty shops currently in operation; the first is in General Santos while the other is in Robinsons Place in Ermita, Manila.

The shop in Robinsons Place isn’t that big. It’s about two meters by three and a half meters and located underneath one of the escalators near the mall’s Padre Faura wing. It’s not too hard to find especially since there are several stand up advertisements of the People’s Champ. The shop sells basically everything from shirts, shorts, shoes, sandals, caps, towels and jackets. It also sells DVDs of Pacquiao’s fights and CD albums. There are also notebooks, mugs and bags.

The prices are also relatively cheap — some of the shirts cost from P400 to P600 depending on design. The jackets, shoes and bags are a bit more pricier. The other products are somewhere below P500.

During my visit to the shop, there were already several memorabilia-seekers checking out the wares. There were a few who bought shirts and others were taking pictures.

Pacquiao is trying to get into his own bandwagon by opening up his own shop. Pacquiao memorabilia has been sold in shops since his rise to fame as a talented boxer. There were shirts with his name and his eventual logo that were being made by fans and sold especially prior to his fights. Most clothing shops in Greenhills, San Juan  also have shirts with different Pacquiao images. Jackets, especially those designed with the Philippine flag emblazoned with the Team Pacquiao logo, have sold quite well. Even fake Nike shirts have also hit the streets. Some have even started selling shirts online.

Pacquiao is also one the first Filipino athletes to ever have a Nike hoodie designed for him. He is also the first Filipino to have a Victorinox watch designed for him. Who knows what other clothing and accessories would be made for him?
