PASIG CITY, METRO MANILA—Five-year old kids will no longer have to squeeze themselves in at congested classrooms this coming school year.
The Department of Education (DepEd) and the Bagong Henerasyon Party List recently launched the Kindergarten on Wheels (KoW) Project, a mobile learning truck which will be piloted in highly populated public schools in Metro Manila.
The initiative is part of Bagong Henerasyon’s Health, Education, Livelihood, People Empowerment and Sustainable Development (H.E.L.P.S) for healthy, educated and empowered citizens and a fight against poverty and indifference.
“We welcome this innovation … it continues to intensify the campaign to make education accessible to all and to provide all five-year olds with proper educational interventions in preparation for the K to 12 program,” Education chief Armin Luistro said.
Under the joint agreement for the KoW, the DepEd shall provide teachers and volunteers, enhanced curriculum guides and initial sets of teaching and learning materials for the students.
Bagong Henerasyon, led by Representative Bernadette Herrera-Dy – will shoulder the customized trucks in DepEd identified areas complete with its drivers and maintenance officers needed for the learning sessions.
About 1.9 million students are currently enrolled in kindergarten schools nationwide.
