QUEZON CITY, METRO MANILA – Some 45 public and private schools will be competing for the top spot in this year’s National Search for Sustainable and Eco-Friendly School.
The nationwide competition organized by government agencies in the environment and education sector recognizes schools from the elementary, high school and tertiary level implementing the best sustainable and environment-friendly programs and activities.
According to Environmental Management Bureau Director Juan Miguel Cuna, the entries of the participants exceeded expectations as to how creative and committed the schools are to observe eco-friendly practices.
“We need to start teaching our kids as early as we can to take responsibility in safeguarding our environment. Schools are dynamic focal points of learning and powerful vehicles of change. Parents and teachers can work together to spread the wonders of living an environmentally-smart lifestyle,” Cuna stressed.
Fourteen elementary schools, 16 high schools and 15 colleges from different parts of the country made it to the final list. Winners will be announced in an exhibit and awarding ceremony on November 16 as part of the National Environmental Awareness Month.
The first place winners will receive P50,000, the second place will receive P40,000 and that third place will receive P30,000 along with plaques of recognition for each level.
Smart Communications have also partnered with the search as part of its social responsibility to encourage more schools to adapt to an environmentally-friendly lifestyle.
