Focus on small- and medium-sized businesses (SMBs) -- we want to celebrate the budding Filipino entrepreneur. Interesting micro industries, cottage industries, mom-and-pop stores, rural bank concerns, even individual entrepreneurs who are making a difference and deserve to be heard. If it’s not about their business, maybe they can share some insights. Or maybe there’s a local government or trade official in your area who can talk about the state of and opportunities for SMBs in the country.

We are looking for independent artists, little known handicraft makers, furniture makers, fashion designers, literary works, visual arts, student filmmakers, animation, or experts talking about the state of indie art and entertainment. It could also be an established artist giving his or her share to help indie artists or someone giving their opinion on the state of indie art or the state of the entertainment industry in the country.

Budding inventors, a new type of scientific process, kids and professionals with bright ideas, environmental awareness or students doing business are always interesting to read. There could also be discussions from academic experts, or government officials talking about uplifting the state of the country’s education and science programs.

Here we are looking for anything which affects the family -- home products and gadgets or home businesses, health products or health issues, physical and spiritual well-being of the family and even community issues that affect certain subdivisions or barangays. It could be about the physical home such as real estate and design, a unique house somewhere in your locality, the oldest building in your area or even a historical house. Or it could be anything which affects or changes the household.

Filipinos love to eat, so tell us about the food you’ve tried or discovered and send photos and video too. It could be a restaurant offering a unique dish or theme and ambience. It could be Pinoy food, new dishes, or even Pinoys selling their food abroad. Tell us about the unique dishes found in your locality, whether you’re a Pinoy in the Philippines or elsewhere. No time to be squeamish here, even strange food fares are welcome!

Wanderlust strikes us all. Show and tell us about unusual places in the Philippines you’ve visited or discovered. Historical places. Recreational areas and tourist spots. New and interesting places. Places in the news. Nature shots. A wild river or a calm stream. An erupting volcano or a peaceful forest. A wild animal caught on film or photo. Show us how unique and beautiful the country is.

This does not have to be a purely Pinoy sport or game like “sipa” or “patintero,” although such activities are also featured here. We are looking for interesting sports or fitness activities, or areas where Pinoys engage in such activities. It could be sports accessories created by Pinoys, or fitness centers that offer a unique activity, diet or regimen. It could be a Pinoy who excels in a sports activity, no matter how little-heard that sport may be.

This could be based on what we hear, read and see from traditional news. It could be a fire or an accident in your community, or a photo of the place where a murder victim or a fugitive was last seen. It could be a politician’s visit to your barangay or it could be anything that affects your community. The key words here are “immediacy” and “relevance.” As long as the issue is pressing and relevant to your area, that’s news in YOUR locality, from YOUR perspective.
