MANILA CITY, METRO MANILA – A nonprofit group aims to provide 105 barangays in Metro Cebu with access to sufficient and potable water supply.
A report from the Central Cebu Water Resource Management showed that water supply remains to be a major issue in the metropolis, which has only enough to last until 2030.
The poverty reduction project aims to cover 15,684 households in five cities and four municipalities covering 105 barangays. This will include the installation of two potable water systems per 200 households, according to the Philippine Business for Social Progress (PBSP).
The five-year program will focus on the rehabilitation, protection and conservation of the Central Cebu Protected Landscape (CCPL).
Coastal areas and marine waters in and surrounding Mactan and Olango will also be monitored if it can still support the livelihood of fishermen and the local tourism industry.
Metro Cebu also has among the country’s greatest concentrations of households, with 24 out of 100 families earning below P7,000 a month.
