QUEZON CITY, METRO MANILA— The agribusiness and manufacturing sectors are the country’s next key industries that can help Filipino workers find a sustainable and a good paying job in the next 10 years, according to the Department of Labor and Employment (DoLE).
The DoLE recently released its 101 Career Guide, identifying the country’s key employment generating sectors or (KEGS) in the next decade.
Agribusiness notched the top spot, followed by “cyberservices”, health and wellness, hotel, restaurant and tourism, mining, and construction. Banking and finance landed on the seventh spot followed by manufacturing, ownership dwellings and real estate, transport and logistics.
DoLE released the 101 Career Guide to help reduce the country’s job-talent mismatch phenomenon and to also help students and job seekers have correct and relevant labor market information to align their career plans.
This can also be available in hard copy upon request and online at the DoLE website, which contains data and information on the nature of the jobs, basic educational requirements, skills and competencies, attributes and characteristics, salary and compensation, prospect for career advancement, employment opportunities, and cost of education and training.
Although the manufacturing industry is often underrated by job hunters, Labor Secretary Rosalinda Dimapilis-Baldoz said that there are enough job opportunities for Filipinos in this sector.
The official said for instance a machinists can have a salary that ranges from 15,000 to 20,000 pesos per month even at the entry level.
Baldoz said the manufacturing sector can even help balikbayans or those who opt to stay in the country to get even as high as 30,000 pesos if they are highly trained and experienced.
As for those who would like to undergo training and pursue a career in this industry, Technical Education and Skills Development Authority (TESDA) offers Conventional Machining Training Course for 160 hours.
The official stressed that manufacturing industry also employs almost all classes of machinists who can also be employed in the electricity, gas and water supply, construction, wholesale and retail trade, and transport, storage and communication sectors.
Baldoz said that with the 101 Career Guide, students and job hopefuls can finally make wise decisions and would not underestimate these sectors that can give decent and fair paying jobs for Filipinos.
