ENRILE, CAGAYAN – Flood-prone municipalities in Cagayan province will be receiving P1.5 million in assistance from the United Nations-World Food Program (UN-WFP).
The towns of Amulung and Enrile, in particular, will be the beneficiaries of the assistance package. The cash assistance is to be divided to these two towns for the construction of common evacuation centers with complete facilities to serve evacuees during disasters.
The local government has vowed to counter the pledged amount to ensure that both municipalities will both receive P1.5 million through the Department of Interior and Local Government (DILG) regional office.
DILG Region 2 Director Rolando Rafael said that the two municipalities were chosen to be the recipients of UN-WFP based on the assessment and standards of the organization.
The organization had also seen the situation of the province during super typhoon “Juan”, which hit Cagayan Region last year.
The UN-WFP is also looking into the feasibility of the construction of a sea wall to protect residents living along the shore in some communities.
