More companies join NGO’s anti-poverty drive

QUEZON CITY, METRO MANILA— The Philippine Business for Social Progress (PBSP), the country’s largest corporate-led social development foundation, welcomes new members who will contribute ways to address poverty in the country.

The foundation’s latest members are Cathay Pacific Airways, Aegis PeopleSupport, Inc., Asalus Corporation (Intellicare), Associated Broadcasting Company (TV5), Epson Precision (Philippines), Inc., F.R. Sevilla Industrial and Development Corporation (FRSIDC), Magsaysay Transport and Logistics Group, NGP Integrated Marketing and Communications, Inc., Pacific Metals Canada Philippines, RU Foundry and Machine Shop Corporation, Toyota Autoparts Philippines, Inc., TVI Resource Development (Phils.) Inc.

By joining PBSP, these companies vow to help alleviate poverty according to he Millennium Development Goals.

PBSP, chaired by PLDT president and chief executive Manny Pangilinan, operates nationwide with key programs in sustainable livelihood and micro, small and medium enterprise development, and the environment.

“In the Philippines, we hope to scale up our social involvement with PBSP,” said Cathay Pacific country manager Ed Higgs. The airline has been involved in environment and education projects throughout the region.

PBSP continues to grow with over 240 small and medium enterprises and large member companies.

Since its founding in 1970, PBSP has benefited 6.5 million Filipinos and assisted over 6,400 social development projects through more than P5.2 billion in grants and development loans.

Early this year, Pangilinan announced that the PBSP would also be seeking foreign donors to support programs help alleviate the lives of poor Filipinos.
