QUEZON CITY, METRO MANILA -  Filipino boxing icon Manny Pacquiao believes he can manage  being a professional boxer and a member of the House of Representatives at the same time.

“Ready na and excited,” the Saranggani representative said, interviewed at the sidelines of the first-ever State of the Nation Address by President Benigno Aquino III in Congress.

The boxing hero wore a barong adorned with fish embroidery that he says was inspired by his hometown of General Santos City, regarded as the country’s tuna capital.

Pacquiao, who recently finished a 10-day certificate course at the Development Academy of the Philippines (DAP), said he is ready to buckle down to work as a congressman.

“Sa ngayon priority ko ay pag-create ng hospital sa probinsya namin at livelihood programs kasi maraming tao ang walang trabaho,” he said.

Pacquiao also pledged to gather support from fellow congressman in pursuit of the country’s first Olympic gold medal, whether in boxing or in another sport.

The seven-time boxing champ is preparing for another fight scheduled this November although there is no final word yet whether he will fight Floyd Mayweather Jr., who’s been disputing Pacquiao’s stature as boxing’s number one pound-for-pound fighter today.

“Kung mag-boxing po, sa umaga ang training at jogging. Sa hapon naman ang session sa Congress,” Pacquiao said.
