QUEZON CITY – Newly proclaimed President Noynoy Aquino said he prefers to name his Cabinet members once they are complete instead of naming one or two chiefs under his administration.
“We are in the process of asking and interviewing those that we are eyeing for particular position. A lot of them have not completed the process, I am waiting for them before we say the full list of names,” said Aquino in his first media briefing as the country’s chief executive after being proclaimed by Congress.
He, however, hinted that the position of Finance secretary is “almost final” but declined to identify who, saying he will present his Cabinet when the roster is complete.
“The position of Secretary of (Department of) Finance is set in stone but I have to finalize and I would announce the appointments, to present the entire Cabinet,” Aquino said.
He added his Cabinet would be composed of technical experts to help him perform an “inventory of the problems” his administration will inherit from the administration of outgoing president Gloria Macapagal-Arroyo, citing the ballooning budget deficit and high rate of unemployment.
Meanwhile, Aquino clarified that the Presidential Security Guards (PSG) who secured the vicinity and accompanied him during his entrance in Congress were actually retired PSGs who served during the term of his mother, the late former president Cory Aquino.
