BUTUAN CITY, AGUSAN DEL NORTE— The Amante clan remains a political force in this province as members maintain their hold of key local government positions.
Incumbent provincial Governor Erlpe John Amante is set assume his third term after winning via landslide over rival Roger Patanao.
His sister and former governor, Maria Angelica Amante, will take over as representative of Agusan’s second district from their father and incumbent congressman Edelmiro Amante.
There is not much movement in Agusan politics as re-electionist candidates also won, including incumbent vice governor Enrico Covera, who will take on his second term of office.
According to the Mount Balatucan Monitor, the two Amante scions did not face serious contenders in the recent polls, unlike in the 2007 elections.
Meanwhile, Ferdinand Amante Jr. will become the capital city’s mayor, winning over a rival political family in the recent polls.
In a post on thebloghub.com, Guia emphasized the latter the victory of Ferdinand Amante Jr. as Butuan mayor, dislodging the 18-year reign of the Plaza family. A practicing physician, the incoming mayor was a former barangay captain in Ampayon.
