QUEZON CITY, METRO MANILA – The three sisters of Senator Benigno “Noynoy” Aquino III would have the last say before the latter makes crucial decisions as the country’s next president, according to a political analyst.

Sisters Maria Elena “Ballsy” Cruz, Aurora Corazon “Pinky” Abellada, Victoria Eliza “Viel” Dee and actress Kristina Bernadette “Kris” Yap “will assume political roles as gatekeepers in helping out in Noynoy’s administration,” says political analyst Mon Casiple, who also sits as executive director of Institute For Political and Electoral Reform.

“All four sisters made that decision that they would help out in the administration of Noynoy. Of course, with Cory (former president Corazon Aquino) not around anymore, they have always been very protective of Noynoy.”

“I call it gatekeeper. ‘You want to talk to Noynoy, or convince him of your idea, talk to us first.’ Usually, it is the role of the wife but in this case (since Noynoy is single), I think it is the sisters. I don’t know about Shalani (Soledad). Of course, there would be a change if there is marriage,” explains Casiple.

“These (gatekeepers) are the people you have to talk to first before any conclusion can be drawn or any decision can be made by the principal, or the president. A gatekeeper’s role is usually to do preliminary discussions on any idea you are proposing whether it is practical or supported by president or not.”

The senator has denied reports that sisters Ballsy and Pinky are in the “search committee” hat will screen applicants for Cabinet posts, although he admitted that his sisters will assist him “in some way.”

Her youngest sister Kris, a noted TV personality, earlier announced that she will leave her shows on ABS-CBN days ahead of the June 30 proclamation of newly elected officials. Casiple notes this move was “a family decision not Kris’ alone.”

“What you are seeing there is the political education of Kris Aquino. She is about to embark on a new career: politics. That is the logical step for her and everybody was waiting for her to make that move since she campaigned in the 1978 IBP elections for his father,” he says.

Kris, then at a very young age was already a “natural” in politics, he adds. “She knows how to deal with people and how to convince them on what she wants. And we’ve seen that talent was transferred to showbiz.”

“In coming back to politics, you would see this characteristic basically develop towards a political career,” says Casiple, who adds that Kris will likely run for public office in 2013.

But Kris, being the youngest, would assume the role of a day-to-day gatekeeper. Her elder sister Ballsy, who served as chief of staff during the term of their mother, will tackle more critical or sensitive issues before Noynoy decides, according to Casiple.

“Had Cory been alive today, she would have served as an elder adviser but not really as immersed on the job as the four sisters. Among the three, she (Kris) would be most comfortable in dealing with the public because of her showbiz background and because she would have the time to do it,” he says.

The role is opposite of that of a spokesman, who explains the decision of the president in public. It is also different from a technical adviser, who will have to meet qualifications for their fields such as economics or trade, because a gate keeper’s role is more personal, according to Casiple.

“They are the most loyal followers of Noynoy. And they would be the first to throw down any idea they think would be a problem for Noynoy. After all the advisers have spoken, they are the ones who basically analyze for Noynoy the pros and cons of the advice. They would be the closest of all advisers and eventually they are the support base at anytime of the president in a personal way.”

“It’s not a question of competence on the issue or subject matter. The job is more personal because they know Noynoy since childhood, how he thinks and his priorities. And from that vantage point, they become his gatekeepers,” concludes Casiple.

This is total nonsense. This will cause the fall of Noynoy and the rest of the country will be dragged down by it. This goes to show the lack of backbone our President has.
