QUEZON CITY. METRO MANILA – Incumbent senator Lito Lapid, former senator Serge Osmena III, incumbent congressmen Teofisto Guingona III and Ruffy Biazon, and Risa Hontiveros-Baraquel are all vying for the final three senatorial spots.
The Commission on Elections proclaimed last Saturday nine of the senators who made it to the Magic 12.
Based on Comelec’s tally as of May 15, Ramon “Bong” Revilla Jr. garnered the most number of votes, followed by Estrada, Defensor-Santiago, Drilon and Enrile. The top 12 senators and their tallied votes are as follows:
1. Revilla, Ramon Jr. – 18,218,514
2. Estrada, Jinggoy – 17,722,162
3. Defensor Santiago, Miriam – 13,335 800
4. Drilon, Franklin – 16,066,001
5. Enrile, Juan Ponce – 14,695,263
6. Cayetano, Pia – 12,821,946
7. Marcos, Ferdinand Jr. – 12,372,118

Hontiveros-Baraquel is ranked 13th with 8,581,125 votes, followed by Biazon (8,148,685) and Jose De Venecia III (7,867,883), son of former House Speaker Jose De Venecia.
The proclamation of the first nine senators has been lauded as the fastest ever in poll history due to automation. Except for first-timers Marcos and Guingona, the rest of those newly proclaimed are incumbent or returning senators.
Comelec spokesman James Jimenez said it may proclaim the last three senators as early as Monday if the final three million votes would not affect the rankings of the five contenders.
The Comelec en banc will convene to discuss whether to allow the 13th-ranked candidate to occupy the seat that would be vacated by incumbent Senator Benigno “Noynoy” Aquino III, who is set to be proclaimed as the country’s next president.
