QUEZON CITY, MANILA— For environmentalist Nicanor Perlas, his bid for the presidency suffered due to irregularities in the automated polls.
Perlas, who ranks seventh according to latest elections results, has banded together with Senator Jamby Madrigal and JC Delos Reyes of Ang Kapatiran in raising doubts over alleged irregularities in the canvassing of votes.
Five to eight million voters, including those from indigenous groups who support him, failed to cast their ballots, says Perlas, who ran as an independent candidate.
“Based on my calculations, up to 8 million Filipinos were unable to vote due to long lines on Election Day and because of the substandard time and motion study of Comelec (Commission on Elections) and the clustering of so many precincts,” says Perlas.
“Add to this the fact that we are uncovering discrepancies between the random manual audit and the canvassed results,” he says.
“As I have said before, we should conduct a full manual parallel count especially for the presidential post because this is the only way that we can make sure the canvassed votes reflect the will of the people.”
Perlas says his volunteers are collating evidence of poll irregularities for a case he would file with the Comelec.
