MAKATI CITY, METRO MANILA – When the National Statistical Coordination Board (NSCB) announced late last month that it would be introducing “sexy” statistics, the state-run agency wasn’t joking.

The NSCB, an agency under the National Economic Development Authority (NEDA), released quite an interesting data that seemed to give some hope for females who have no dates this Valentine’s Day.

The report, ostensibly entitled “It is Valentine’s! If you are a 30-39 year-old Juliet and your heart greatly desires a 30-39 year-old Romeo, your best chance is to go
find him in Region IV-B (MIMAROPA)
”, used population data by regions.

It included data on the number of males and females per region, as well as their ages. The NSCB used the 2011 Census report of National Statistics Office (NSO), which indicates the country’s official 2007 population pegged at 88.5 million.

But NSCB provided contextual information as to the statistical chances of finding a partner per region. For instance, NSCB noted that females who are in the age range of 20 to 29 would have better chances of finding a male partner of the same age in Region IV-B or MIMAROPA.

MIMAROPA is also an excellent choice for in the age range of 30 to 49 to find partners of the same age.

Incidentally, Metro Manila provides the least chance of providing a male partner for females with ages 20 to 49.

In contrast, men with ages 20 to 29 would have better opportunities to find women of the same age in Metro Manila. But men who are between the ages of 30 to 49 will find better chances of finding a female partner in the Autonomous Region for Muslim Mindanao (ARMM).

The regions that would least likely provide a partner for men between the ages 20 to 39 are MIMAROPA and Region VIII or Eastern Visayas.

Statistically, there are actually more single males (10 years old and above) than there are females. The 2007 Census showed that there are 15.9 million single males above 10 years old compared to just 13.7 million for single females of the same age.

Of course, beyond the statistical data, the NSCB said that finding a partner is not just about competing for what’s left of the viable population but rather on what the single person really wants.

For this Valentine’s Day, the NSCB stated that it is better to explore inner values and “learning to extend love infinitely.”
