ZAMBOANGA CITY, ZAMBOANGA–With only a few days left to fix those final touches for your Christmas decorations, the Department of Trade and Industry (DTI) released an advisory on the proper handling of Christmas lights to ensure safety in its use.
First, refrain from using more than three sets of lights to avoid circuit overloading, which would most likely cause electrical fire especially when left unattended.
Replace busted bulbs with those of the same voltage and wattage to prevent overheating and always remember to unplug the lights from the power supply first before doing so.
And last, but definitely not the least, never leave your Christmas lights plugged on overnight or unattended.
It won’t hurt to also take a few minutes and read the instruction manual before installing the product to avoid any inconvenient incidents from taking place.
Take note of important labels and reminders such as the rated voltage and wattage of the set and the lamp, and if the lights can be used indoor or outdoor only or both.
Christmas light sets should always bear the Import Commodity Clearance (ICC) mark sticker which serves as your guarantee that it has passed the required safety tests of the DTI.
