SAN FERNANDO CITY, PAMPANGA–This province has been recognized as the most outstanding in Central Luzon for its successful efforts to implement and sustain its local nutrition program.
The provincial government credits the Green Banner Award for Nutrition to its health-related programs and services such as immunization and provision of supplemental feeding to the malnourished children in different municipalities.
The provinces of Bataan and Nueva Ecija were runner-ups for the award.
Data from the Regional Nutrition Committee (RNC) indicate low prevalence of under nutrition in Central Luzon among all regions in the country at 4.35 percent for children aged 0 to 5 years old.
The RNC has been working on achieving the goals of the Philippine Plan of Action for Nutrition (PPAN) towards the improvement of the nutritional situation of the country.
This is in line with the Millennium Development Goals (MDG) target of reducing the number of people who suffer from hunger by half, the prevalence rate of underweight children under five years of age and the proportion of the population below minimum level of dietary energy consumption.
