QUEZON CITY, METRO MANILA -Pretty Things creates shoes that are both fashionable and comfortable for the modern, independent Filipina.
“Independent women have too much going on in their lives already, the least we can do is to make it a little easier for them by making shoes which fit their lifestyles,” says Naidez Valencia, one of the owners of Pretty Things.
Naidez runs the shoe retail business with her sister Sharene. The siblings share a common passion for fashionable, yet affordable shoes that can be used for many occasions.
“We want people to know that there are local brands out in the market that actually respond not only to their aesthetic but also their practical demand when it comes to shoes,” Sharene says, adding that they make it a point to not compromise the quality and the style of the products.
Naidez says they also source the shoes from the best Marikina shoemakers who would accept a modest order from Pretty Things and settle on a price agreeable to both parties.
“We really looked for a quality shoemaker who would deliver what we want and would charge us for a reasonable price because we want comfort to be very affordable for our prospective buyers,” she says.
Whereas others would assign names for their shoes derived from a person’s name and candy brands, Pretty Things shoes are named after songs like “She’s My Winona” and “Waltzing Madonna.”
“The brand is not just for the practical and busy woman, it’s also for someone who knows when to take it easy and have fun,” Naidez says.
In bazaars, Pretty Things flats in suede or canvas are sold for 750 pesos. Each pair has sturdy soles but is padded with a soft material inside to counter the pressure of the person’s weight.
“Before we even decided to mass produce, I tried it myself to test if it passes my own standards on comfort. We don’t want to associate ourselves with a product that is sold based on false promises,” Sharene says.
Colors range from preppy pastels and neutral to deep sophisticated hues that can go with any wardrobe for women of all ages.
A nurse by profession and a dedicated mother, Naidez says Pretty Things “is the answer to the ever changing lifestyles, moods and preferences of a woman who knows what she wants.”
“Aside from value for money, the shoes are our simple offering to women who know that they deserve better things in life,” she says.
