SAN FERNANDO, PAMPANGA— Many Kapampangans still practice real-life “Via Crucis” or Stations of the Cross, including the live crucifixion and flagellation of penitents on Good Friday.
These penitents carry wooden crosses and are then crucified on a makeshift hill. Others flagellate themselves during a two-hour procession as a form of panata (religious vow); the latter are called magdarame by locals.
