QUEZON CITY, METRO MANILA – This store is a favorite among toy collectors looking for inexpensive, yet iconic and rare toys.
“We just really love to share these collections to our fellow toy collectors,” says Aida Kitane, proprietor of the vintage toy store Genshiken Anime.
The store started as an anime store mostly selling anime collection series toys in 2009, but Aida transformed the store into a vintage store offering authentic doll collections, a particular area of toy collecting that fascinates Aida the most.
Aida started collecting Barbie dolls 12 years ago. It was only recently that she became fascinated with Japanese dolls.
“The excellent craftsmanship was evident in these dolls. I find the precision and eye for detail amazing,” says Aida. She says that because of this, there is now a rising number of Japanese doll collectors.
“Collectors have the tendency to get attached to their collections. As much as I want to sell these toys, I sometimes find it hard to let go of these toys,” Aida says.
She adds that the store has collections fit for all ages of customers who love cartoons and toys. If you’re hunting for that precious set of “The Simpsons” and other items like “Voltes V” set, then Genshiken Anime the place to go.
The items, more importantly are sold at half their original prices, Aida says.
The more expensive collections can range from 1,000 to at least 3,000 pesos, still relatively cheaper compared to other stores who sell replicas.
Aida says the store is her personal source of fulfillment. “Timeless toys are rarely found so I suggest collectors to be passionate about toy collecting,” she says.
