LAPU-LAPU CITY, CEBU – These young Cebuano entrepreneurs know just the right time to put up a clothing line and they’re establishing it with a totally unique and local approach.

Inspired by urban street fashion, Dopee Clothing was first launched in March 2009 by Pierson Querubin, Dylan Baguio, and Jumar Ania del Corro.

The group has high hopes that their clothing line will reflect not only a person’s lifestyle, but also a person’s individuality.

For Pierson, a graphic artist in Canada, the business is an outlet where he could channel his creative ideas and transform them into tangible tools to be used by others who share the same principles in fashion.

With the help of cousins Dylan and Jumar, Pierson decided to capitalize on his skills and put up a t-shirt printing and distributing business in their hometown in Cebu.

Pierson eventually marketed the Dopee Clothing brand with his original designs on the shirts.

“I have varying designs because I want clients to find something that actually matches their personal style, feelings or moods,” Pierson says.

Take a closer look at his work and one will see a wide range of designs from dark and gloomy to colorful and bright. The designs have become such as huge hit among students, young professionals and local rock bands from Cebu and Manila.

Alongside other products on display in the shop, the Dopee shirts are sold at a reasonable price range of P350 to P400.

Pierson share that with a starting capital of P10,000 the business has gone a long way. He was quick to put add however that the group is in no rush to quickly expand as this defeats the very purpose of the clothing business.

“This is our way of representing the youth, in a non-stereotypical way. We believe these are the extensions of their flexible attitudes,” Pierson says.

Pierson says although Dopee Clothing is barely a year old, the store will continue to promote not just the fashion, but the essence of the business.

“You have to be resourceful with what you have and be a doer. Strive to be original and carry with it a meaningful message.”
