PASAY CITY, METRO MANILA – Ground coffee and muscovado sugar usually go together for a satisfying drink. But what happens when these local ingredients go to your face instead of your cup?
There are numerous skin care products available in the market today, but Lami Tiamson-Chua knew that there are still opportunities if one is persistent and patient enough.
She started her first mineral make-up line under Bare Naturals, the brand she has established from the ground up. “It really started with my personal battles with skin imperfections,” Lami shares.
Her skincare line grew into a wider range of products which include molded and handcrafted soaps, body sprays and make-up primers all having essential oils like Emu Oil, which is proven to do wonders even to the most severe facial infections.
While she makes use of the imported Emu Oil in majority of her products, Lami says she tries to make use of whatever local product that is available.
She sells body scrubs like the Moringa Matcha Green Tea, the Caffe Cubano Body Scrub, Deep Seaweed, Charcoal, and Mango Mandarin Apricot scrubs, which are said to perfect agents against aging.
Her sugar scrubs like the Muscovado, Neem Oil and Honey Scrub, Black Coffee and Charcoal Sugar Scrub and Pineapple and Lemon Peel are said to have anti-bacterial and invigorating benefits to one’s skin.
Her handcrafted soaps all have been infused with Virgin Coconut oils and interestingly enough, she makes use of bamboo as handle for her make-up applicators.
Over time, Lami with the help of expert chemists had developed different types of soap all responding to distinct skin infections of the varying skin types that Filipinos have.
“Unlike other manufacturers of natural soap, we don’t use the initial fruit or plant extracts as these might have a certain effect on sensitive skin. Ours have gone through a process so that the nutrients in the ingredients are preserved and stabilized,” Lami says.
The products are priced from 100 to 300 pesos and Lami herself sometimes give customers tips on how to maintain healthy skin.
Lami was kind enough to give me a brief hand scrub using one of her sugar scrubs and after few rubs here in there, my skin (at least on my hand) in fact had this glow.
More than the evident and immediate effects of her natural beauty products, Lami stresses that with great skin comes the commitment to take care of it.
With the efficacy of her products as proven by celebrities who are huge fans of her Bare Naturals products, Lami says that the right attitude in choosing natural skin care products is a skill that consumers must develop.
Such “skill” she adds might just give you the natural beauty you want to achieve out of using natural products for the skin.
“If you’re smart with the products you use for your face, beauty comes out naturally. And I’m not even talking about superficial beauty brought about by your make-up but truly glowing bare skin,” she says.
