SAN JUAN CITY, METRO MANILA – For some people, choosing what gifts to give family and friends this Christmas can be difficult. For those seeking “personalized” and fashionable gift items, Lovemachine may have the answer.
Lovemachine was a concept that Ica Secades and Nill Cruz thought about in November 2009. But the two saw the potential of personalizing items and soon started offering personalized products.
“I just sort of worn this pair of shoes that I doodled on and everyone thought it was cool. Soon, we started getting orders to the point that we can barely handle it,” Ica says.
With Ica’s doodling and Nill’s skills as a freelance graphic artist, the two eventually developed their own shoe line with more complex designs after only a few months in the business.
What’s special about their acrylic on canvas sneakers, Ica says, is that they encourage clients to collaborate with them in designing the personalized items.
“We get customers involved in the creative aspect so that it becomes something personal to them, not just something made by someone else,” Ica says.
She adds that Lovemachine is now being commended for the quality of the designs and of the sneakers which are sold online.
They sell the shoes for 1,200 pesos per pair and can go lower depending on the purchase. Purchases made in bulk can increase your chances of getting a discount.
The business requires extra effort and time, but Ica says it will be hard to give up something that you have worked for from the ground up.
“Make something that interests you as starting point. You will never get bored with it and you would care less about the money it gives you because you’re passionate about what you’re doing,” Ica says.
