QUEZON CITY, METRO MANILA— Small, personalized caricature statues, or bobbleheads, are becoming popular gift items among Filipinos.
The caricature statues allow you to be a “somebody” like your favorite professional golf player or your favorite super hero, says entrepreneur Glenn Gwyn Ko.
Glenn and his partner Thomas Miranda realized that personalized bobbleheads can be good business, and in 2006, established MiniMe Caricature Statues.
Glenn, who is the company’s president and CEO, says the caricature statues have also been “Filipinized” because most Filipino customers don’t want too much distortion.
According to Glenn, the statues are made on a per order basis by a group of artists. An order would take 10 working days to finish and the basic price starts at 2,500 pesos.
A person can have his likeness turned into a bobblehead nurse, a golf player, Superman and other characters.
Glenn says the most popular item is the golf player bobblehead mostly given as a gift to company bosses.
“We’re glad that we are receiving positive response so far plus the fact that we know we are promoting a unique art,” Glenn says.
MiniMe Caricature Statues now has three stalls in Metro Manila. The company is open to franchising and currently has a franchise in New Zealand owned by a Filipino.
