PASIG CITY, METRO MANILA – In celebration of DC Comics 75th anniversary, Filipino comic book fans are trying to establish a record by having the most number of people wearing superhero costumes in one place.

This year, the whole world celebrates the 75th anniversary of DC Comics, the home of such comic book super heroes as Superman, Batman, Wonder Woman, and Aquaman. Of course, Filipino fans and toy collectors of the DC Comics universe will also be celebrating with the rest of the world.

DC Comics, represented by local distributor Global Brands Southeast Asia, will have several major activities in the Philippines, one of which is a partnership with the Collectibles Unlimited, organizer of the annual Philippine Toy Convention.

In an interview, GBSA Director Ailea Zialcita says the hope to break the world record for the most number of people in superhero costume in one location. This will be held during the 9th Philippine Toy Convention at the SM Megamall in Mandaluyong on June 19.

Zialcita says here is a huge community of toy and comic book fans of DC Comics the Philippines, as proven by the strong sales of the DC toy line and merchandise. The popularity of Superman and Batman remains strong due to the success of their movie and cartoon franchise.

She also noted that even DC Comics hired Filipino artists, such as Alfredo Alcala, Gerry Alanguilan, Whilce Portacio, among others. “This shows our artists are integral in the creation of the DC Comics universe,” she says.
