QUEZON CITY, METRO MANILA — How do you exactly teach parents to keep up with today’s Internet generation? Let video blogger “HappySlip” show you how. On YouTube, of course.
HappySlip (Christime Gambito in real life) is already a familiar name for those who have made YouTube a part of their daily Internet fare. A Fil-American based in the United States, her videos humorously depicts Filipino culture, especially involving family.
Her video, titled “YouChoob”, shows her trying to make her parents (characters she play herself) watch her videos online. Of course, not all parents are as “techie” or familiar with the Internet (or even computers).
The video is indeed hilarious although seriously, it reflects on how Filipino parents are willing to learn anything to show support for their children. And YouChoob is how most Filipinos pronounce it.
I can very well relate. Since my work involves writing articles and creating videos for the Web, I had to teach my mom and my aunts the basics just so they can see my work online. You can say I had to “force” them to learn.
I can also say my mom has adapted well to the Internet. To the point that she is now hooked on Farmville, like many others on Facebook.
