QUEZON CITY, METRO MANILA – Even before his fight versus Joshua Clottey, seller – on and off the Internet – have yet again capitalized on putting Manny Pacquiao’s image on T-shirts.
After his win, the asking price for these shirts- again online or at the mall – have gotten higher.
At the Greenhills shopping mall and Saint Francis Square in Ortigas Center, for example, a Pacquiao shirt is priced at P300 to P400 pesos. Vendors admit they’d rather sell to foreigners than to locals who, more often than not, haggle for a lower price.
But if you’re looking for much cheaper shirts, I suggest you go to Divisoria or Baclaran. But you have to remember that it is cheaper there because they don’t pay rents for stalls with air-condition.
If you want to avoid the hassles of shopping, you can always check online and purchase Pacquiao apparels and have it delivered for you. On e-bay, the top-selling item is the King shirt which costs $22 as of the moment, or around P1,000.
At sulit.ph meanwhile, you can purchase shirts adorned with different images of the ring icon ranging from P400 to P600
Aside from the shirts, shoes and DVDs of the Pacquiao-Clottey fight are also available, despite people saying they would rather buy copies of Pacquiao’s fights since the latest one was boring.
I was lucky enough to have been given a Pacman shirt by no less than the Filipino superstar himself. Or more like, thrown by him. Covering his victory parade after winning against Miguel Cotto, I was on a truck full of media people when Pacquiao decided to throw shirts at us.
He threw one in my direction and to make sure I get it, he shouted: “Para sa babae yan! (That’s for the girl!)” The shirt turned out to be a couple of sizes bigger for for me but I kept it. Who knows? Maybe I could sell it for a good price. Especially if he wins against Mayweather.
