MANILA, METRO MANILA — While the world celebrates the beginning of the year of the Metal Tiger on the Lunar Calendar, the Chinese community is also gearing up for balancing the upcoming heat of 2010 with the help of Feng Shui.
Tiger Years are third in the cycle and recur every twelfth year but its characteristics are tempered by one of the five Chinese elements of Metal, Water, Wood, Fire and Earth overlaying a five-year cycle of characteristics on the original 12-year cycle. The Metal Tiger last occurred in 1950 and this 2010. It officially begin on the 14th of February, which gave people a double celebration as it coincided with Valentine’s Day.
According to Feng Shui expert and charms merchandiser Maxima Tiu,Tigers born in the Metal year like to stand out in a crowd. Like tigers in the jungle, they are independent and protective but because of the influence of metal, they sometimes suffer from mood swings and temper tantrums. Their main enemies are the monkeys.
“But carrying the sign of the metal tiger does not give one a license to be lucky. When you are sitting on your throne, other animals have the tendency to envy you and throw you out from your place,” said Tiu who also gave Feng Shui tips to avoid bad vibrations.
“It is important that you attend celebrations such as weddings, birthdays and go to church to absorb the positive energies — and try to avoid funerals or hospitals as much as you can,” said Tiu, referring to Tigers and Monkeys.
The lucky colors this year are white, gold and silver but Tiu said she always suggests colors depending on her customer’s element. She further suggested that those under the metal tiger sign must avoid wearing red and yellow and go for brown, blue or black to balance the heat factor of the metal.
Tiu said that people expect forecasts on the coming year but this year might bring more human friction due to the “heat” of the metal, meaning the Philippines might become a hot spot because of the election period.
At home or business, Tiu suggested that it’s better to have the presence of water such as a fountain or aquarium at the center of the house or office for a continuous flow of blessings. In her store, she offers the “8 Lucky Swallows” Plate which is believed to bring luck for the whole year. She suggests that it be placed at the East direction inside the house or at the back of the office tables to bring harmony, prosperity, wealth and fortune.
But Tiu stressed that despite having all the charms for feng shui, if the owner does not have a good heart and positive thoughts, even Feng Shui will not bring good fortune to your life.
“No one is really ‘unlucky’ but if you continue doing and having negative thoughts, you will really receive misfortunes,” she said.
