QUEZON CITY, METRO MANILA – Conspicuously tucked in the middle of Tomas Morato and Timog Avenue is a newly opened café that brews concoctions with flavors that are out of this world.
It has only been months since Green Coffee had a soft launch but already, the café has been getting a lot of feedback from coffee and pastry fans for its accessibility and the relaxing ambience.
The place is smaller than the main branch in Davao but is incredibly relaxing with interiors that sport earthy shades of browns and greens that are really easy to the eyes and the soft lighting calming to the senses.
“The ambience is just one factor but more importantly, we want guests to feel like it’s always their first visit by ensuring that we produce flavors that aren’t only unique but very are consistent,” says Diane Braga, Green Coffee manager.
Diane says that the café only uses the freshest ingredients especially for fruit-infused drinks in the menu. She added that they are very particular in the roasting method to maintain the quality that they’ve set and are starting to get known for especially for their coffee.
“We make sure that we roast just the exact amount of coffee beans needed for that day. Otherwise, the quality of the beans would really be affected and that’s what we are trying to avoid,” Diane says.
The fact that Green Coffee owners harvest their coffee beans from their very own farm in Davao already says it all. This is probably that one place where customers can be assured that they get the same (or maybe even better) quality of service that’s round the clock.
As a monthly offering, Green Coffee showcases different concoctions for their customers to try. I was much obliged to try the Chocolate with Fine Salt and Cheese coffee for its oddity (P170).
If you’re a huge coffee fan, this chocolate based drink will make an equally satisfying substitute to caffeine. Just imagine a cup of rich chocolate that’s topped with cream cheese and then sprinkled with fine salt.
At first, the flavor is undecipherable. Eventually, you’ll get a consistent saccharine taste that’s complemented by the tinge of flavor from the salt. It’s sweet alright but not as overwhelming and surprisingly delightful as it may seem.
They also serve Milk Tea with Fine Salt and Cheese if you’d prefer a much less sweeter variant.
Of their freshly baked pastries, the Blueberry Ensaymada (P95) is probably the most popular. Ideally, they serve it re-heated so that the cheese melts into a gloppy cream subtly drowning the bread in turn adding moist to this usually dry pastry. The fresh blueberry stuffing is likewise a sweet surprise and is a nice addition to this classic Filipino bread.
Should you swing by this part of Quezon City, drop by Green Coffee and you’ll never look at coffee, or in this case chocolate drinks, the same way again.
