TAGUIG CITY, METRO MANILA— Marja Anna Corcuera grew up in a family that cooked paella so well that it has become a traditional dish in their household.

“My grandmother had her own way of making home cooked paellas which my mother eventually learned and inherited,” she says.

And if there’s one thing about food that both the Spanish and Filipinos have in common, it’s how much we love to eat rice.

However, enjoying this Valencian rice dish would require one to shell out a few hundred bucks for an authentic plate and is often only available in fine-dining restaurants.

This inspired Marja’s family to set-up a business that offers quality Spanish cuisine at affordable prices.

“We wanted to fuse the flavors of Spanish cuisines with the home-cooked feel that we Filipinos pride our own dishes for,” she explains.

Three years later, Casa Goñi has become a hit among the food market crowds for its affordable yet mouth-watering paellas.

Some of its best-sellers include the Wagyu Beef, Angus Japanese and Paella Negra.

For P85 a bowl or P150 for buy-one-take-one, you get a well-cooked rice meal topped with a generous amount of beef or sea food and vegetables, depending on your choice of flavor.

“It’s a small hole in the wall serving down to earth Spanish cuisines that we want everyone to enjoy without having to spend so much,” Marja says.

Casa Goñi’s Paella is available at the Legazpi Sunday Market, Mercato Centrale and Soderno at Molito. They also do catering services upon request.
