TAGUIG CITY, METRO MANILA–Jigo Reloj and his girlfriend Hanna Lua have always been fond of traveling to Asian countries.

It was during one of their random travels that they chanced upon rotis, a tortilla-like delicacy made of flour and is popular in most South Asian countries.

“Rotis have become a personal favorite that I thought about learning how to make one because there weren’t a lot of this made available in the local market,” Jigo says.

His love for rotis and a dream of starting his own business led Jigo to establish in October last year along with his girlfriend and brother Anthony.

Papa Roti is a mobile store that puts a twist into the usual roti with varied fillings in both savory and sweet flavors.

“We wanted to come up with variations in the same way we find rotis a simple yet delectable treat,” Hanna says.

Among their best-sellers include the Roti Phratas Canai, Hummus and Pesto; the Roti Savory Ham and Cheese; and the Blueberry Cheese Cake among its Roti Sweets.

The Roti Phratas are priced at P80; Roti Savory for P110; and Roti Sweet for P120. You can also mix and match three roti fillings for just P150.

To date, Papa Roti prides itself to be the first roti bar in the country bringing this affordable Asian-inspired treat to weekend food markets like Mercato Centrale, Distrito Makati and Soderno at Molito.
