Bite into these French-inspired pastries from The Cupcake Boutique

PASAY CITY, METRO MANILA— While most college graduates would opt to either work or take post graduate studies, Klarisse Joseph took on a different path by deciding to pursue her love for baking.

In fact, Klarisse, or Klar, flew straight to Chicago after acquiring a degree in marketing communication to study Pastry Arts at the renowned French Pastry School.

While studying overseas, she worked for different bakeries and pastry shops. Armed with a great deal of experience a couple of years later, she decided to come back and establish The Cupcake Boutique, inspired by Chef Sonja Ocampo of Sonja’s Cupcakes.

“I wanted to follow on her footstep and at the same time, make a brand of my own.”

The Cupcake Boutique is a home-based business launched at the Best Food Forward food fair just early this year. It offers a wide array of mini cupcakes that fuses both local and hard-to-find ingredients for their flavors.

Just eight months since her food venture started, Klar has drawn the sweet tooth of Filipinos with her French-inspired bestsellers like “The Diplomat” whose cake and filling are all made from Valrhona chocolate.

Another is the “Red Velvet”, which blends French coco powder to its moist cake topped with Swiss cream cheese. Her cupcakes cost P70 per piece, also available in boxes of six at P420 and of 12 at P840.

Besides using the finest ingredients, the Cupcake Boutique also puts a premium on presentation, which Klar believes sets her pastries apart from other cupcakes.

“The whole package and the look are completely different in that you get to eat it with your eyes first before actually tasting it,” she says.
