TAGUIG CITY, METRO MANILA – Getting bored with the usual beverages? You might want to visit the ECHOstore in Serendra, which serves a unique drink using the traditional Filipino treat chocnut.
The chocnut became popular in the 1980s with its striped white and red paper wrapper. For most Pinoys, this classic chocolate bar has always been a sweet staple and has become a part of popular Filipino culture.
While others might love eating the chocnut as it is, the ECHOstore has opened ECHOcafe to give the traditional snack a more modern twist.
The café is owned by coffee advocate and restaurateur Pacita Juan (also the driving force behind coffee chain Figaro). The café operates under the principles of sustainability, organic living and support for the local producers of fresh farm coffee and produce.
The Choc-Nut Shake (115 pesos) might seem like the regular milkshake but this is actually coffee-based and infused with actual chocnut bits.
The consistency of this drink is a lot like milkshake, though. It’s rich and thick but what makes it unique is the perfect balance of the coffee’s strong aroma and the sweetness of the chocnut.
The chocnut shake goes extremely well with their Arrabiata Sun-dried Tomato Pasta (195 pesos), which comes with two slices of toasted garlic bread. The chocnut shake compliments the pasta and actually balances the garlicky taste of the sauce.
After your sweet and healthy meal, you can browse the store for unique products and hand-made recycled items.
