QUEZON CITY, METRO MANILA – Thanks to these food connoisseurs, diners need not go far to experience comfort food reminiscent of contemporary homestyle cooking.

Opened just last February by couple Jasper and Carol de Leon, the Felicity Patisserie offers a complete change over the usual grill houses and bars currently found along Holy Spirit Drive in Don Antonio Heights Subdivision.

This neighborhood café caters largely to residents living in the area by offering them an intimate and relaxed dining experience from what Carol considers the “extension of their home kitchen.”

“Felicity means ‘intense happiness’ which is exactly what we want guests to feel right after stepping in until they leave. We want them to take that happy feeling with them to their own homes,” said Carol, the “queen of the house” when it comes to desserts.

Setting the café apart from others is how it gives equal value to the main meals and desserts. Jasper, a teacher with an uncanny skill in experimental cooking, concocts unique meals to complement the desserts and pastries.

As the designated artist, Jasper is also the brains behind the homey café. Carol shares says designing the café was a matter of how comfortable and relaxed they wanted their guests to feel which was why Jasper went with white-washed walls and extremely comfortable seating to stay true to the concept of a peaceful and cozy home.

“Whereas in other restaurants where guests would dine in and would want to immediately leave after finishing their meals, the vibe in this restaurant makes them linger in the place to unwind after a sumptuous meal,” Carol says.

The food items and desserts are just as fun and enticing. Carol actually named the desserts, using her vast background in marketing.  The food items include Pasta Kaibigan, Ooh-Lala Pasta, and Choc-Ohh, which will surely have your mouth watering in no time.

Some recent additions include appetizers like the Manna Crisps and Sour Cream Dip (P50), which Carol describes as perfect nibbles to excite the palate and ready the senses for good food to come.

For hot main meals, uniquely flavored rice toppings and pastas are available to suit the tastes of people who seek something different. Best-sellers include Vigan longganisa-based Pasta Kaibigan (P160), Darling Steamed Cream Dory (P175) and Dory with Tomato Pesto Confit (P200).

To top off the main entrees are the home-baked sweet cakes and pastries which include Brazo de Felicidad (P165 whole), Choco Nirvana (P110), No Bake Blueberry Cheese (P110), and the cream puffs and eclairs for only P20 a piece. These are baked in the café’s kitchen so rest assured, you’ll get really moist and fluffy goodness.

Over the few months since they’ve set up shop, Carol says they are humbled of the café’s modest but consistent and strong following.

“It has a lot to do with the personalized service that we give. We make them feel as if we are the host and they are our guests in our home so we really make them experience a way of dining as we experience it in our own home with our kids,” Carol says

The Felicity Patisserie is also an ideal venue for functions that range from big birthday bashes to intimate send-off parties. Carol says they aim to maintain a communal atmosphere and they try to accommodate requests of customers.

“We make quality and delicious food initially to gain people’s positive feedback which they can share through word of mouth. The idea is for others to discover the place, taste our food and hopefully find all the good reasons to come back,” Carol says.
